Kolkata, Sep 28: Mohammed Habib, the legendary striker of 1970s is seriously ill. He has been suffering from, Parkinson's for last few years.

At the same time, the former Indian international has also been in anguish due to another fatal disease, Alzheimer's.

His family members have recently made a written appeal to East Bengal Club where Habib had spent his golden days, seeking financial assistance.

One of his family members when contacted, informed, the footballer is not even being getting the pension he used to receive from the central sports ministry after being conferred with Arjuna.

Assistant secretary of East Bengal Dr. Shanti Ranjan Dasgupta revealed that the club has received the letter from Habib's family seeking financial help as well as some effort so that Habib could be brought from Hyderabad to Kolkata for an intensive medical check-up.

Habib can speak. But there is no synchronization between his sentences. On Tuesday when he was initially asked about his health over the phone, Habib replied, “Is still Kolkata remembering me?"

When the 'Bade Mian' as he was fondly called in Kolkata for his immaculate ability to maneuver the team on the pitch, was asked whether he still could remember his golden days, Habib replied in a trembling voice, “I have been ill for the last couple of years. Now it seems to have aggravated."

One of Habib's family members told on condition of anonymity over the phone, “Along with Parkinson, he has been suffering from Alzheimer also for the last couple of years. Naturally, he needs an intensive treatment."

Incidentally, East Bengal club, after having received Habib's letter has decided to summon an emergency meeting.

The former Indian international footballers of seventies who had once been Habib's mate on and off the field have also started taking an effort to bring Habib to Kolkata for his treatment.

Habib, when informed about the impact, was moved and said, “I am just touched to have learnt that Kolkata still remembers me."
