Former Man United and Barcelona star spends 7000 dollars at a Bar in Brazilian Favela, wins hearts of Locals

By MyKhel Staff

The life of a footballer is a funny one, and amid the pressure and routine of their daily lives, every player deserves an off day and a new experience outside the football field.

And former Manchester United and Barcelona player Memphis Depay had a blast at a Brazilian favela on Friday (November 15).

Memphis Depay

Depay left Atletico Madrid this summer and has moved to Brazil. The Dutch international is currently playing in the Brazilian top flight with Corinthians. And it seems he is enjoying his life in Brazil as the player recently had a fantastic time at a 'Favela' in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The South American countries have a lot of Favelas, which are urban slums somewhere in the upper part of the city. Life in the favelas opens up a completely new philosophy of a person as it coincides with the blatant truth of human's everyday struggle.

But Memphis made his trip to a favela for some fun with the locals. The 30-year-old former Barcelona star spent some excellent time with the people and also provided the entire expense at a bar.

He came with musical instruments and played with the kids. The footballer not only just mingled with the locals but paid the total bill of Brazilian dollar 7000, which is just around Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency.

"It was a joy! He arrived with instruments in his hand. It was amazing. A very humble, simple guy who seemed like he was from our community, playing with the kids. As his gift to the community, Depay paid for the nearly R$7,000 bar bill that night. He left Grande ABC at 3 am," a local was quoted as saying by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Depay also reportedly jokingly told the people to enjoy however they want as the bills would all be covered by him.

"He left everything on his account. He said... you can knock down the bar and I'll pay for everything later!".

Depay has so far scored 3 goals for Corinthians since his move to the club and has also managed an assist in 10 appearances. The act from Depay has won the hearts of the people who hailed his humble attitude. The way the Dutchman mingled with the mass has been massively and rightly appreciated across the world.
