Manvir's father Kuldip Singh was also a national footballer from Punjab. Kuldip who worked with Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) had also participated in the senior national football championship, Santosh Trophy for a couple of times.

But he could not imagine that he would have to face the ultimate disaster. One afternoon, during his duty Kuldip got a horrible shock from a high-voltage electric power point and immediately the former national footballer had to lose his right hand. It had to be removed after Kuldip was admitted to the hospital.
The reaction of this fatal injury was also extremely painful. Kuldip received another jolt when he had to face a cerebral attack and his right portion was paralysed.
Kuldip's son Manvir had just started playing football when these tragic incidents rocked Kuldip and his family.
Still, he wanted his son to be a footballer. But who would look after his son? Manvir had joined Minerva FC but he seemed to be unhappy with the guidance he was getting there at the club.
Football in Punjab seemed to have lost its glory as most of the football giants from the state had stopped participating in the top tier Indian football.
Manvir came to Kolkata and registered with Bengal. Kuldip was in doubt whether his son would be able to set a mark in the state.
It happened on Sunday. After a long gap of 6 years, Bengal regained its dominance in the battle of the country's most prestigious inter-state football championship, Santosh Trophy, defeating arch rivals Goa by a solitary goal and the beautiful goal was struck by Manvir Singh.
The striker became highly emotional as he was weeping when contacted over the phone in Goa. Incidentally, his father Kuldip who watched the final in Jalandhar, sitting in front of TV was also weeping after watching his son played the most important role by scoring the winner to revive Bengal's glory i Santosh Trophy with the 32nd title.
Manvir said" “I am dedicating this success to my father. Even after being paralysed he had tried his best for me so that I can establish my career in Bengal."
Kuldip added: “My dream came true as I was never able to bring this trophy for Punjab."
