Former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez leaves Europe, joins this Mexican Club

Former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has decided to seek new pastures in the January Transfer window and has joined a new club in the 2025 calendar year.

Rodriguez, who joined Spanish club Rayo Vallecano at the start of the season, has left them for the remainder of the season. The former Real Madrid player featured only 7 times for Vallecano this season.

And after the short stint at Rayo Vallecano, Rodriguez has now joined Mexico's top-tier outfit Club Leon. As per reports, the Colombia international has been roped in by Leon with a one-year contract, which shall see him at the club at least till the end of the 2025 calendar year.

The 33-year-old has joined the Mexican club and will be up for the significant challenges which is associated with the Mexican league. Rodriguez was criticized for joining Leon back in his country as the player was tipped to make a return to Colombian football with Junior de Barranquilla, but the financial offer from the Mexican club was too much along with the enticing factor of playing in Mexico, one of the top leagues across the two American continents.

He began his professional career at Envigado FC in Colombia before making a name for himself at Banfield in Argentina. His European journey started with FC Porto, where he won three Primeira Liga titles and the UEFA Europa League. A move to AS Monaco followed in 2013, but it was his stunning performances in the 2014 FIFA World Cup that catapulted him to global fame. Winning the Golden Boot with six goals, including the iconic volley against Uruguay, he earned a €75 million move to Real Madrid. At Madrid, he won numerous trophies, including two UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles, though injuries and competition limited his impact.

James's career also included successful stints at Bayern Munich, where he won back-to-back Bundesliga titles, and a brief spell in the Premier League with Everton. He later ventured to Qatar with Al-Rayyan and then to Greece with Olympiacos. On the international stage, he has been a key figure for Colombia, amassing 112 caps and guiding them to the 2014 World Cup quarterfinals. Despite challenges in recent years, James's skill and achievements solidify his place as one of Colombia's greatest footballing icons.
