Former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich attacker James Rodriguez could be poised for a dramatic return to Spain this summer, with the 33-year-old Colombian midfielder attracting interest from several La Liga clubs.
A decade ago, the 202-24 Champions League winners secured James Rodriguez for £63 million following his stellar performances at the 2014 World Cup and his impressive season with Monaco.

During his time with Los Blancos, Rodriguez won two Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles. However, his stint at Real Madrid did not evolve as smoothly as hoped, leading to his departure in 2020.
After leaving Real Madrid, Rodriguez had spells at Bayern Munich and Everton before joining Brazilian side Sao Paulo last year. Unfortunately, his time in Brazil was also underwhelming, with only eight appearances and a meager tally of one goal and one assist across all competitions.
But Rodriguez's fortunes took a turn at this year’s Copa America in the United States, where he enjoyed a career-reviving campaign. Leading Colombia to the tournament final, he recorded one goal and six assists in six matches, earning the prestigious Golden Ball award for his outstanding displays.
With Rodriguez and Sao Paulo mutually agreeing to terminate his contract, several European clubs have shown renewed interest in the Colombian star. La Liga side Rayo Vallecano appears to be the frontrunner in the race to sign him.
Rayo Vallecano are keen to secure Rodriguez’s signature and is exploring all financial options to make it happen. The club, celebrating its centenary this season, aims to make Rodriguez their star addition.
In addition to Rayo Vallecano, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad have also expressed interest in bringing Rodriguez back to La Liga.
Now it remains to be seen what lies ahead for Colombia's biggest star who was once regarded as a golden boy in Europe.
