Four Barcelona youth prospects called up to first-team training by manager Hansi Flick

Barcelona have enjoyed a promising start to the 2024/25 La Liga season, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 12 points after four consecutive wins.

Under new manager Hansi Flick, the Blaugrana have impressed with their style of play and tactical organization. However, injuries have begun to cast a shadow over their otherwise bright start to the campaign.

Key players like Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Marc Bernal are all sidelined with injuries.

The limited squad depth has become a pressing concern for the German tactician, forcing him to look beyond the senior team for solutions.

Barcelona’s academy, long regarded as a hotbed of young talent, is now Flick’s go-to resource to bolster the squad.

Since he arrived at Camp Nou, Flick has placed a strong emphasis on integrating youth into the first-team setup.

The former Bayern Munich manager has been actively scouting the Barca Atletic and Juvenil A squads, seeking the next generation of stars who can step up to the senior level.

This past weekend, Flick was spotted attending a Barcelona U-19 fixture against Badalona, where the young Blaugrana secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Following the match, reports suggest that Flick has called up four promising academy players to first-team training ahead of their upcoming fixture against Girona.

Among the players training with the senior squad are defenders Landry Farre and Alexis Olmedo, as well as attacking midfielder Noah Darvich and forward Toni Fernandez.

All four players have caught Flick’s eye, with Olmedo, Darvich, and Fernandez already having participated in the pre-season with the first team.

Landry Farre has been a more recent addition to the group of academy players under consideration.

Flick is hopeful that these young prospects will be able to provide valuable depth during the injury crisis and offer rotational options throughout the season.

The Catalan giants, known for producing world-class talent from their academy, could once again rely on youth to help in this challenging period.

Although It remains to be seen which of these young talents will break into the first team in the coming weeks, Flick’s dependency on the academy mirrors Barcelona’s persistent tradition of nurturing homegrown players.
