France Defeats Ukraine 4-0: Mbappe's Second-Half Brilliance Secures World Cup Spot

Kylian Mbappe's impressive second-half performance leads France to a 4-0 victory over Ukraine, ensuring their qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The match showcased key contributions from players like Michael Olise and Hugo Ekitike.

Kylian Mbappe delivered a stellar performance in the second half, scoring twice and assisting once, as France secured their place in the 2026 World Cup with a decisive 4-0 victory over Ukraine. This win at the Parc des Princes ensured Didier Deschamps' team moved six points ahead of both Iceland and Ukraine in Group D, with only one match remaining.

In the first half, Anatoliy Trubin kept Ukraine level by saving Mbappe's shot and expertly deflecting Bradley Barcola's attempt onto the post. France faced a tense moment when Dayot Upamecano blocked Yehor Nazaryna's shot early in the second half, leading to a VAR review. However, they were awarded a penalty after Taras Mykhavko fouled Michael Olise following Rayan Cherki's pass.

France Beats Ukraine to Qualify for World Cup

Mbappe confidently converted the penalty in the 55th minute, chipping it down the middle. France extended their lead when Olise turned on N'Golo Kante's pass and scored into the bottom-left corner with 14 minutes left. Seven minutes later, Mbappe scored again from close range after Hugo Ekitike's hard work. Ekitike then scored himself with two minutes remaining, finishing off a pass from Mbappe.

Rayan Cherki showcased his creative skills once more in Paris. Last season, he led players aged 21 or under in Europe's top five leagues for chances created (75) and expected assists (11.7 xA). The Manchester City midfielder created four chances in the first half alone and had the most shots (four) and touches in the opposition area (seven).

Cherki's precise through-ball set up Olise to win France's opening penalty. Meanwhile, Mbappe moved closer to a personal milestone by reaching his 400th career goal for club and country with his second finish of the match.

Mbappe Nears Scoring Record

The Real Madrid forward now has 55 international goals, just two behind Olivier Giroud, who tops France's all-time scoring list. Mbappe's performance not only contributed significantly to France's victory but also brought him closer to surpassing Giroud’s record.

This emphatic win highlights France’s strength as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup. With key players like Mbappe and Cherki performing at their best, Les Bleus look poised for success on football’s biggest stage.
