Gianluigi Donnarumma has stated that Italy will not underestimate France, even in the absence of Kylian Mbappe, as they prepare for their Nations League clash. Both teams have secured quarter-final spots, but the top position in Group A2 remains contested. Italy leads the group by three points after defeating France 3-1 in September. However, a victory for Les Bleus could change the standings.
For the second consecutive international break, France will be without their captain, Mbappe. Didier Deschamps decided to exclude the Real Madrid forward from the squad. Despite this, France remains unbeaten in their last three matches without him, securing two wins and a draw. Their recent goalless draw against Israel highlighted some offensive struggles.

Donnarumma acknowledges Mbappe's absence as significant but believes France still poses a threat. "Yes, I don't know about the choices that are made in other squads. I don't know what happened, it's [Mbappe] certainly an important absence," Donnarumma mentioned during a press conference.
Italy has maintained an unbeaten record in the Nations League, with only one draw against Belgium after being reduced to 10 players. This follows a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign where they were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16. They managed just one win while defending their title.
Donnarumma feels Italy is regaining its form reminiscent of their Euro 2020 success. "It's a healthy group, I'm starting to see the spirit of the old European Championship," he added. The team consists of young players eager to prove themselves and don the national jersey.
Donnarumma also highlighted other French players who could pose challenges. He noted that despite Mbappe's absence, France has talented substitutes like Bradley Barcola, Randal Kolo Muani, and Warren Zaire-Emery. These players have shown great quality and can trouble any defence.
The Italian goalkeeper emphasised that maintaining performance levels is crucial for Italy now. Their aim is to keep improving while enjoying their game and entertaining fans along the way.
