France Must Be On The Same Page To Win World Cup, Says Digne

Lucas Digne says France must think the same way and stay united if a third World Cup title is to follow this summer, with the defender stressing that talent alone will not secure success against rivals such as Argentina and European champions Spain.

According to the Opta supercomputer, Didier Deschamps' team hold a 13% chance of lifting the trophy in North America, the second-highest prediction behind Spain at 16.1%, underlining expectations around a squad packed with established stars and younger attacking options.

France Must Be On The Same Page, Digne Says

France carry strong forward options into the tournament, with Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise and Desire Doue all expected to play key roles, yet Digne underlines that reputation means little without performances across seven high-pressure matches. Honestly, there are a lot of strong teams: Argentina, Spain, and so on. We have a very good team too, Digne told RMC Sport.

I think it will come down to the details, and then it's up to us to show during the competition that we can be relied upon. When you start a competition, you want to win it, that's for sure. With the team we have, we're going to do everything we can to go as far as possible. It's true we have a very good attack, everyone knows that. But there's a difference between having a very good attack during a World Cup and having one on paper; it's completely different. For the moment, everything is going well, and I hope everyone will be at 100% for the World Cup. We need to develop our understanding, work hard, and for everyone to be on the same page.

This year marks France's 17th appearance at the World Cup and extends a run of eight consecutive qualifications, their longest continuous streak at the tournament. The national team have lifted the trophy twice, in 1998 and 2018, and remain the most recent hosts to win the competition on home soil.

Recent World Cups show consistent deep runs, as France reached the final in both 2018 and 2022, beating Croatia in Russia before losing to Argentina on penalties in Qatar, a sequence that reinforces expectations that Deschamps' squad should again challenge strongly for the title.

France World Cup group schedule and warm-up form

France begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal on 16 June, then meet Iraq and Norway in Group I, a section that appears manageable on paper yet still demands focus from a squad seeking another long run at the tournament.

Before travelling, France face Northern Ireland in a final warm-up match after a defeat to Ivory Coast in their previous friendly, a result that highlighted areas for adjustment but also gave Deschamps further information on squad depth and tactical options.

Across preparations and into the group stage, Digne keeps returning to the same theme of unity and shared ideas, arguing that if every player understands roles and maintains that level, France have the platform to compete with any opponent in North America.
