Thomas Frank Cautious Of Southampton's Threat Before Brentford's Visit To St. Mary's Stadium

Ahead of the Premier League clash, Brentford manager Thomas Frank expresses caution regarding Southampton's capabilities despite their poor form. Both teams aim for crucial points as they navigate challenging seasons.

Thomas Frank is not underestimating Southampton's current struggles as Brentford prepares to face the Premier League's bottom team on Saturday. Southampton has only secured one win and six points from 19 matches this season, following a narrow 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Despite their position, Frank acknowledges the challenge they present at St. Mary's Stadium.

"It's a good team. I know they are bottom of the league but nothing is easy in the Premier League, we know that," Frank stated on Thursday. "I have big respect for Southampton. We need to bring our 'A' game and be unbelievably focused but, if we are, I believe we can get the three points."

Frank Aware of Southampton's Potential Threat

Ivan Juric, Southampton's manager, remains optimistic about his team's chances of avoiding relegation. "They are really motivated and want to change this moment," Juric mentioned during his pre-match conference. He emphasised the need for improvement and increased energy to secure victories.

Despite their struggles, Juric praised Brentford's tactical approach and consistency under Frank's leadership. "Brentford are really good," he added. "They have had their coach for a long time and you know what they want to do. Tactically, they are really good."

For Southampton, Tyler Dibling stands out with two Premier League goals this season, making him their joint top scorer. At 18 years old, only Matt Oakley scored more as a teenager for Southampton in a single campaign back in 1996-97.

Bryan Mbeumo is a key player for Brentford, having opened the scoring against Arsenal recently. In 2024, Mbeumo and Yoasne Wissa were involved in 63% of Brentford’s goals, forming an effective partnership under Frank’s guidance.

Match Prediction: A Tight Contest

The Opta supercomputer suggests a draw or narrow victory as likely outcomes for Saturday’s match. Although Brentford has won their last four encounters against Southampton, including high-scoring games against other relegation-threatened teams, their away form remains poor with no wins in nine attempts this season.

Opta Win Probability

Outcome Probability (%)
Southampton win 35.5%
Draw 25.9%
Brentford win 38.6%

The upcoming match presents challenges for both teams as they aim to improve their standings in the league. While Brentford hopes to capitalise on Southampton's recent form, Juric's side is determined to turn things around and avoid further defeats.
