London, September 7: Sam Allardyce said Crystal Palace chiefs are adding to the pressure on the players by giving Frank de Boer one game to save his job.

Having failed to win any of his opening three Premier League games at Selhurst Park, De Boer has reportedly been told he will be axed if there is no improvement against Burnley on Sunday, reports talksports.com.

Former Palace boss Allardyce, a co-host on Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, said: "Frank with his experience and what he has done as a player and manager seemed a good choice but they have struggled to start the season.

"But to have the threat of win or be sacked - I don't know if that is the case or not - adds to all the pressure not just with him but more importantly the players."

Allardyce has lamented the failure in the modern-day game to give managers a proper chance to make their mark.

"For many years the impatience in the game is really one of its problems," he said.

"The long-term development of a football club by a manager cannot be more than what is going to happen this year and by the end of next year I have got to try to keep my job by getting enough results. Any further planning by a manager is almost a bit of a nonsense now," he said.
