Frank Onyeka Signs Permanent Deal With Coventry City To Help Stay In The Premier League
Frank Onyeka has now joined Coventry City on a full-time deal after last season’s loan, and the midfielder is already targeting a strong Premier League campaign, aiming to help the Sky Blues avoid relegation when they open at Arsenal on August 21.
The 28-year-old arrives from Brentford after playing an important role in Coventry City’s promotion push, and the club confirms the agreement that brought Onyeka on loan in January included an automatic option to buy if promotion to the Premier League was secured.

Onyeka featured 14 times under Frank Lampard as Coventry City won the Championship title, ending a 25-year absence from the Premier League, and the midfielder now wants the West Midlands side to build on that progress rather than simply fight near the bottom.
The structure of the original loan meant Coventry City were committed to a permanent transfer once promotion arrived, so the club moved quickly to finalise terms with Frank Onyeka, whose energy and experience in midfield are seen as important as the squad prepares for top-flight challenges.
Speaking to the club’s media channels after the move was confirmed, Onyeka explained that the decision to join Coventry City permanently felt natural because the group had already shared a successful promotion campaign and built strong understanding on and off the pitch.
"I'm really excited for the new season with Coventry, Onyeka told the club'smedia channels. When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals: to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League. I'm really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my team-mates and bring my experience. My ambition now is to help the team stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can."
As preparations continue for the August 21 trip to Arsenal, Frank Lampard is expected to rely heavily on Frank Onyeka’s work rate and defensive qualities in midfield, with the player stressing commitment, resilience and team spirit as vital if Coventry City want a stable Premier League season.
The combination of a long-awaited top-flight return, a permanent deal for Frank Onyeka and a clear ambition to finish as high as possible leaves Coventry City entering the Premier League season with defined goals, centred on securing safety and building a lasting presence at that level.
