Everton manager Sean Dyche has expressed optimism following the Friedkin Group's acquisition of the club from Farhad Moshiri. This transition, finalised last week, signals a fresh beginning for Everton. The team is currently unbeaten in three Premier League matches and sits four points above the relegation zone. They have maintained clean sheets in these games, including goalless draws against Arsenal and Chelsea.
The recent developments have brought a positive atmosphere to the club, which Dyche aims to leverage ahead of their Boxing Day match against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. "This has been an indifferent period for many different reasons," Dyche stated. He noted that while expectations have risen, spending has decreased, presenting challenges. However, the new ownership has provided a more balanced perspective and optimistic outlook.

Everton's upcoming match against Manchester City presents a significant opportunity for them. Historically, they have struggled against City, winning only one of their last 22 Premier League encounters and losing 12 of the last 13. However, Everton boasts an impressive record in Boxing Day away games, remaining unbeaten in their last eight (five wins and three draws) since a 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa in 2005.
The Toffees also secured victory the last time they faced reigning champions on Boxing Day, defeating Leicester City 2-0 in 2016. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola's side has experienced nine losses in their last 12 matches across all competitions (one win and two draws), equalling their total defeats from the previous 112 games.
Despite this promising scenario, Everton will face Manchester City without Ashley Young due to an unusual injury sustained during their match against Chelsea. "Youngy is suspended anyway," Dyche explained, adding that Young had torn his neck at the far post during the game. The decision to substitute him was made to ensure his physical well-being and because he was already on a yellow card.
Ashley Young's absence is a significant setback for Dyche's squad as only Dwight McNeil has created more chances for Everton this season than Young’s 16 opportunities. Nevertheless, Dyche remains focused on maintaining momentum and building upon recent performances.
The change in ownership appears to have revitalised Everton Football Club by altering its mood positively. This shift has lifted spirits within the team as they prepare for upcoming challenges both on and off the pitch.
