Fulham have secured their fourth signing of the transfer window by acquiring Sander Berge from Burnley. Berge, who played 37 matches for Burnley in the Premier League last season, joins Craven Cottage on a five-year contract for a reported fee of £20 million.
The 26-year-old midfielder was also on Manchester United's radar as Erik ten Hag sought to strengthen his midfield options. However, Berge chose to move to Fulham instead. This transfer highlights Marco Silva's efforts to fill the void left by Joao Palhinha, who joined Bayern Munich earlier in the window for £47.4 million.

Palhinha had an impressive record last season, winning 75 out of 152 tackles, the highest in the Premier League. In comparison, Berge won 46 out of 76 tackles, making him Burnley's top performer in this category.
Berge also showcased his passing skills last season by completing 1,374 out of 1,574 passes. Only Dara O'Shea surpassed him in Burnley's squad with 1,381 completed passes from 1,732 attempts. This statistic underscores Berge's ability to contribute significantly to Fulham's midfield dynamics.
"It feels fantastic. It's been a little bit back and forth the last few weeks, but I'm finally sitting here in the shirt in this beautiful stadium, knowing that my future is here, which feels great," Berge told Fulham's official website.
Berge expressed his enthusiasm about joining Fulham: "Fulham has always been a team that excited me. I've played them both in the Championship and Premier League, and it's fantastic how they play—4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. The DNA of the Club is to be dominant, aggressive, front-footed, and play nice football, and I think that suits me."
The Norwegian midfielder's arrival at Craven Cottage is seen as a strategic move to enhance Fulham's midfield strength following Palhinha's departure. With his proven track record in tackling and passing accuracy, Berge is expected to make a significant impact on the team's performance.
Berge’s decision to join Fulham over Manchester United reflects his belief in Marco Silva’s vision for the team. His versatility and experience are expected to be valuable assets as Fulham aims for a strong performance in the upcoming season.
