Fulham's Head Coach Marco Silva Highlights Ambition To Win FA Cup Against Watford

Marco Silva has expressed that Fulham's primary goal is to achieve a successful run in this year's FA Cup, aiming to end their long wait for a significant trophy. Fulham will kick off their campaign against Watford at Craven Cottage on Thursday, marking their first encounter since April 2019. Currently, Fulham sits ninth in the Premier League, just six points shy of the top four, having remained unbeaten in their last eight league matches.

Fulham has shown promise in recent cup competitions, reaching the EFL Cup semi-finals last season and the FA Cup quarter-finals the year before. As they prepare to face Watford, Fulham has advanced from each of their last four FA Cup ties against lower-division teams since a 2-1 loss to Oldham Athletic in January 2019.

Despite their recent successes, Fulham has struggled against Watford, failing to win any of their last six competitive encounters (three draws and three losses), conceding 14 goals during this period. This upcoming match marks the fourth FA Cup meeting between the two clubs, with previous encounters in 1932, 1983, and 2005 all requiring replays to decide a winner.

Both teams have claimed victory once when meeting at the third-round stage previously. Silva hopes his team will secure a favourable outcome this time. "We want to [do well]. Two seasons ago, we reached the quarter-final. Last season we reached the Carabao semi-finals too," Silva stated.

Silva emphasised the importance of the FA Cup for Fulham, urging his players to view it as a top priority. "I told the players that the top ambition is this competition. All clubs should look at this cup like it deserves," he said. He highlighted that participating in the final is an incredible experience and one of the greatest moments possible in England.

The manager is determined for his team to approach each match with full ambition and believes they can overcome Watford. "We want to play with a full ambition that we can beat them," Silva added.
