London, Oct 16 : Football teams may be bearing the brunt of the ongoing credit crunch, but the game can still provide entertainment, especially with the quotes of the players.

Aubrey Malone collected the quotes and produced them in a book called Football Wit. The following are some of the quotes.

"I never comment on referees and I'm not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat," the Daily Star quoted Ron Atkinson, from the book, as having said.

"My parents have been there for me, ever since I was about seven," David Beckham had remarked.

"After the match an official asked for two players to take a dope test. I offered the ref," stated Tommy Docherty.

"A real Irish football fan is one who knows the nationality of every player on the Republic of Ireland team," Jack Charlton said.

"One year I played for 15 months," Franz Beckenbauer revealed.

"We must have had 99% of the game. It was the other 3% that cost us the match," Ruud Gullitt calculated after losing.

"Dutch goalkeepers are protected to a ridiculous extent. The only time they're in danger of physical contact is when they go into a red light district," Brian Clough stated.

"Alan Shearer is so dull he once made the papers for having a one in a bed romp," Nick Hancock on Shearer.
