Gareth Bale's agent terms exit talks as 'ridiculous'

Bale's agent has played down rumours of the former Spurs talisman joining Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.

Madrid, July 29: Real Madrid forward and once the most expensive player in the world Gareth Bale has often been linked with an exit from Santiago Bernabeu in recent weeks but his agent has denied the speculations regarding the exit of his client.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane had previously said that he cannot guarantee Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will stay at the Bernabeu this summer.

That has prompted reports Manchester United could rekindle their long-standing interest in the 28-year-old.

"It's a ridiculous, stupid story," agent Jonathan Barnett told 'BBC Sport'.

Bale did have a poor season compared to his standards but that was mostly due to his fitness issues. The Welshman lost his place to Isco as he was sidelined by injury but still managed to get shortlisted for the 30-man list for prestigious Ballon d'Or award.

During his second season, he struggled with calf injuries, was jeered by some Real supporters and faced criticism from sections of the Spanish media as Carlo Ancelotti's side failed to win a trophy.

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with a world-record move for French forward Kylian Mbappe and it was widely thought that one among Ronaldo, Bale or Benzema would make way for the teenage sensation.

Benzema is the blue eyed boy of Zidane while the idea of losing Cristiano Ronaldo seems dubious which is why many thought that it would be Bale to make way for Mbappe but Bale's agent has rubbished all the links.

Manchester United are long-admirers of Bale and tried to sign him on many occasions. As expected, Old Trafford emerged as a possible destination for Bale but now Mourinho has to look elsewhere if he wants to bolster his attack.
