Gary O'Neil Remains Confident In Wolves' Ability To Escape Relegation Zone Despite Heavy Loss

Following a significant loss to Everton, Gary O'Neil asserts his commitment to leading Wolves away from relegation. He acknowledges fan frustrations but believes in his capacity to turn the team's fortunes around.

Gary O'Neil remains steadfast in his belief that he is the right person to guide Wolves out of their current predicament. Despite a heavy 4-0 defeat to Everton, which left them in the relegation zone, O'Neil is confident in his leadership. Wolves had an opportunity to escape the bottom three with a win at Goodison Park but instead suffered a significant setback.

Wolves' defensive struggles were evident as Craig Dawson scored two own goals after Ashley Young and Orel Mangala had already given Everton a 2-0 lead by halftime. This loss marked Everton's first goals in four Premier League matches. Wolves have conceded 36 goals in 14 matches this season, their worst defensive record at this stage since the 1964-65 season when they were relegated.

O'Neil Confident in Wolves' Relegation Fight

The team's nine defeats this season are their highest at this point since the 2010-11 campaign. It remains uncertain if O'Neil will still be managing when Wolves face West Ham on Monday. The travelling fans expressed their frustration loudly after the match, chanting for O'Neil's dismissal. However, he remains determined to improve the team's fortunes.

"I will back myself in any role given to get the most out of the group that we have," O'Neil stated confidently. He acknowledged the supporters' desire for change but emphasized that negative voices often dominate. "Whatever the fans think of me, there's definitely no one working harder than me," he added.

O'Neil accepts full responsibility for the team's current situation and is committed to working tirelessly until instructed otherwise. "I accept full responsibility. I'll work with everything I have and I back myself to get the most of the group," he reiterated. His focus remains on extracting maximum performance from his players.

Looking ahead, Wolves face crucial matches against West Ham, Ipswich Town, and Leicester City before Christmas. These games are vital for their survival hopes as they battle other teams also fighting relegation. The pressure is mounting not only on O'Neil but also on other managers like Julen Lopetegui of West Ham.

The upcoming fixtures present an opportunity for Wolves to turn their season around and climb out of danger. With determination and hard work, O'Neil aims to steer his team towards safety despite the challenges they face.
