Gattuso Calls For Maximum Commitment From Italy Players Before Moldova Clash

Gennaro Gattuso emphasises the need for maximum commitment from his Italy squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Moldova. With a win crucial for securing a play-off spot, Gattuso aims to instil confidence in his players despite missing key individuals.

Italy's national football team, under the guidance of Gennaro Gattuso, is gearing up for crucial World Cup qualifiers. They face Moldova at Stadionul Zimbru, aiming to secure a play-off spot for next year's FIFA tournament. Following this, they will host Group I leaders Norway at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Although overtaking Norway is unlikely due to goal difference, Italy remains hopeful.

The Azzurri have not qualified for the last two World Cups in Russia and Qatar. Gattuso has urged his players to give their all against Moldova. "This won't be a simple outing; I want to see maximum commitment to continue what we started in September," he stated during a pre-match press conference. Italy's recent form under Gattuso has been promising, with four consecutive wins and 16 goals scored.

Gattuso Demands Commitment from Italy Ahead of Moldova

Despite these successes, Italy faces challenges. Moise Kean, who has been prolific with six goals in his last four appearances, is sidelined due to injury. Additionally, Federico Chiesa chose not to participate in the final international break. The Liverpool player hasn't played for Italy since the 2024 Euros.

Gattuso plans to test players with limited playing time against Moldova but stresses focusing on their own game rather than worrying about Norway's actions. "Against Moldova, we'll try out players who haven't had much playing time, but we have to think about ourselves and not about what Norway will do," he remarked.

Italy's historical record against Moldova is strong, having won all six previous encounters while conceding only three times and scoring 17 goals. Their last meeting in June saw Italy score twice against Moldova.

Norway's Threat and Italy's Strategy

Norway poses a significant challenge with their speed, physicality, and impressive style of play. They lead the UEFA qualifying section with 29 goals in six games and a superior goal difference of +26 compared to Italy's +10. Gattuso acknowledges Norway's potential problems but believes the match against them is easier to prepare for than Moldova.

Since taking over from Luciano Spalletti, Gattuso has revitalised Italy's World Cup aspirations. His leadership has seen Italy score 18 goals overall in qualifying, surpassed by only five UEFA nations. This resurgence brings optimism as they approach these decisive matches.

Italy aims to build on their recent momentum and secure a place in the World Cup through these pivotal qualifiers. The team's performance under Gattuso offers hope for success despite the challenges posed by injuries and formidable opponents like Norway.
