Gennaro Gattuso Appointed As New Head Coach Of Italy National Football Team

Italy has appointed Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach following Luciano Spalletti's dismissal. Gattuso aims to lead the national team back to success after recent qualification failures.

Italy have officially appointed Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach. Gianluigi Buffon hinted at the appointment on Saturday, and it was confirmed by the Azzurri the following day. Gattuso is set to replace Luciano Spalletti, with his introduction scheduled for Thursday. Details about Gattuso's contract remain undisclosed.

Luciano Spalletti announced his dismissal last Sunday after a 3-0 loss to Norway in World Cup qualifying. Despite this setback, he managed a 2-0 victory over Moldova. During his tenure, Spalletti led Italy in 24 matches, securing 12 wins, six draws, and six losses.

Gattuso Takes Over as Italy's Head Coach

Gattuso recently departed from Hajduk Split after a year, achieving a third-place league finish. He managed 43 games there, winning 20, drawing 14, and losing nine. His win rate at Hajduk Split was 46.5%, surpassed only at AC Milan (48.2%) and Napoli (56.8%).

FIGC President's Endorsement of Gattuso

"Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football; the shirt is like his second skin," said FIGC president Gabriele Gravina. "His motivations, professionalism and experience will be fundamental in taking on the next challenges of the national team." Gravina expressed gratitude for Gattuso's commitment to the FIGC's project.

The task ahead for Gattuso includes leading Italy back to major tournaments after missing out in 2018 and 2022. As a player, he was part of Italy's victorious squad in the 2006 World Cup. His experience will be crucial as he aims to restore Italy's presence on the world stage.
