Gerard Pique-Shakira Split: Why does Barcelona defender believe he did not cheat amid infidelty claims

Not too long ago, Global pop sensation Shakira and former Barcelona legend Gerard Pique were regarded as one of the most happy couples around. But things went sour between them since last June.

The sudden news that they have decided to go their separate ways after 11 years of togetherness shocked their fans. They have been making headlines since then as their messy separation plays out in public.

Since the separation, Shakira has often lashed out at Piqué. Shakira made a diss track, titled Sessions where she poked fun at Gerard and his new girlfriend Clara. Also with a couple of explosive interviews, both parties have yielded enough tension between them since.

Shakira and his close associations pointed out in public that the reason behind the separation is due to Barcelona's defender's infidelity. The speculation was raised after Pique embarked on a new relationship with Clara Chia Marti, 24, after the split.

However, the Spanish international still refuted claims of an affair, insisting there was 'no infidelity on his part'. Now in another revelation, it has been reported that Pique's claim was valid.

Why does Pique believe he did not cheat?

Spanish TV journalist Jose Antonio Aviles in an explanation has cleared Pique's claim further. As per the journalist, Pique and the Waka Waka and Hips Don't Lie singer was actually in an open relationship. It means that both of them were open to doing what they want but in the public eye, they will be a couple.

In that respect, when Pique was accused of infidelity the retired defender was shocked with the accusation. Pique although has not made any public comment yet. This revelation comes after Shakira disclosed her grief, stating she found out about Gerard Pique's betrayal while her father, William Mebarak, was in the hospital.

"Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart," Shakira said. "I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU."

Shakira currently stays in Miami and has been granted custody of her two children. The Latin singer is now reportedly dating F1 legend Lewis Hamilton.
