Berlin, Nov 11: In a suspected suicide, the German goalkeeper, Robert Enke died on Tuesday, Nov 10 after being hit by a train.
The 32-year-old who was also the goalkeeper for team Hannover 96 is believed to have been 'unstable' before this death.
Hanover president Martin Kind revealed the Enke had failed not come to terms with the death of his two-year-old daughter Lara. She died in 2006 of a heart ailment.
While the police suspect that the death was a suicide, Enke's friend Joerg Neblung told the media that it was definitely suicide.
"He took his own life," he stated.
On Tuesday, Nov 10 evening, the police released a statement which read, "The victim is apparently national team goalkeeper Robert Enke from Hannover 96. The first police indications are that it was a suicide."
German soccer federation (DFB) expressed shock over the news, while the incident left National team coach Joachim Loew and manager Oliver Bierhoff 'shocked and speechless'.
