Germany's Ambitions Rise After Strong Performance Against Netherlands Under Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann commended Germany's best performance of 2024 following a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands. The team remains unbeaten in the Nations League and aims for continued success.

Germany's recent victory over the Netherlands in Munich marked a significant milestone for Julian Nagelsmann. Celebrating a year since his first game as coach, Nagelsmann praised the team's first-half performance as their best of 2024. The 1-0 win, secured by Jamie Leweling's goal, keeps Germany unbeaten in the Nations League and five points clear at the top of their group.

In the first half, Germany dominated with eight attempts while preventing any shots from the Dutch side. Despite this control, it took until the 64th minute for Leweling to score. Nagelsmann expressed satisfaction with his team's hunger and defensive solidity, stating, "The greed that the team embodied was a huge step [forward]. We did well and let very little in."

Germany's Ambitions Grow After Netherlands Win

Leweling's debut goal was a highlight, making him the first player under Nagelsmann to score on his debut for Germany. Niclas Fullkrug was the last to achieve this feat in 2022. Reflecting on his performance, Leweling shared with ZDF network, "We won as a team... I'm just happy I could help out."

Oliver Baumann also made his debut as goalkeeper at 34 years old. He became Germany's second-oldest debutant post-war and the oldest goalkeeper to debut for the national team. Baumann had a quiet night with only one save needed due to the Netherlands' limited attacking threat.

Nagelsmann's squad is filled with ambition and determination. He noted a "supercharged atmosphere" among players eager to continue their winning streak. This victory not only boosts morale but also sets high expectations for future matches.

Germany's tactical prowess and defensive strength were evident throughout the match. The team's ability to maintain control while limiting Dutch opportunities highlights their strategic growth under Nagelsmann's leadership.

As Germany continues its Nations League campaign, maintaining this momentum will be crucial. With strong performances from both seasoned players and newcomers like Leweling and Baumann, Germany looks poised for further success in upcoming fixtures.
