Germany Beat Ghana 2-1 In Stuttgart As Undav Nets Late Winner

Germany extended a seven-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Ghana at MHPArena, secured by a late goal from Deniz Undav. Kai Havertz scored a first-half penalty, Abdul Fatawu equalised on 70 minutes, and Undav decided the friendly in the closing stages in Stuttgart.

Undav’s 88th-minute strike, set up by fellow substitute Leroy Sane, settled a match Germany had largely controlled but failed to finish earlier. The result maintains Julian Nagelsmann’s unbeaten run and offers an encouraging performance before the World Cup later in the summer.

Germany beat Ghana 2-1 as Undav strikes late

Germany’s winner carried extra meaning for Undav, who plays club football at MHPArena and reacted quickest in the box. Sane’s driving run and pass created the chance, underlining the influence of Nagelsmann’s bench. Both substitutes changed the tempo against a Ghana side that defended deep.

Earlier, Havertz gave Germany a deserved first-half lead from the penalty spot after a handball by Jonas Adjetey. Nick Woltemade had already dragged wide from a Havertz cutback, while Florian Wirtz clipped the post with a free-kick. Jonathan Tah then missed two close-range chances before Wirtz had a finish disallowed for offside.

Ghana stayed in the contest and punished Germany’s missed chances. Woltemade headed a Lennart Karl cross against the bar after half-time, and Germany soon regretted that miss. Derrick Kohn broke down the left and delivered low for Abdul Fatawu, who swept in to level the match.

Underlying numbers reflected Germany’s control. Nagelsmann’s team attempted 23 shots and produced 3.06 expected goals, while Ghana managed six efforts worth 0.56 expected goals. Karl delivered strong attacking output from the bench, sharing the most shots with three, creating two chances and completing both attempted dribbles.

Those substitutions proved decisive. Sane and Undav combined for the decisive goal, while Karl provided extra threat from wide areas. Germany’s first home win of 2026 followed a clear pattern of pressure and creation, with wasteful finishing the main concern rather than chance production against Ghana.

Germany leave Stuttgart with a seventh straight win across all competitions and evidence of strong squad depth. Nagelsmann’s starters controlled most phases, and the substitutes delivered the final blow. For Ghana, the match highlighted resilience and moments of quality but also a clear gap in chance creation.
