Steven Gerrard has parted ways with Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Pro League team, after 18 months as their manager. This decision was reached by mutual agreement. Gerrard took over the managerial role in July 2023 and had renewed his contract for two more years in January of the previous year. However, a series of disappointing results led to his departure.
During this season, Al-Ettifaq managed to secure only five victories out of 17 league matches. This left them just five points clear of the relegation zone. Over his tenure, Gerrard oversaw 59 matches across all competitions, achieving 23 wins, 16 draws, and 23 losses. His win rate at the club stood at 39%.

Comparing his managerial record with other clubs, Gerrard had a lower win percentage only at Aston Villa, where he won 32.5% of games. In contrast, while managing Rangers, he achieved a much higher success rate of 64.8% from 193 matches.
In a statement reflecting on his time at Al-Ettifaq, Gerrard expressed gratitude towards the club's management and supporters. "I want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans, and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here," he stated.
He specifically thanked Mr. Samer, Mr. Hamad, and Mr. Hatim for their support throughout his tenure. "Especially the president, Mr. Samer, CEO Mr Hamad and the head of the football committee, Mr. Hatim," he added.
Gerrard appreciated being welcomed warmly from day one and valued working in a new cultural environment. He noted that it was an enriching experience both personally and for his family. "From the first day, I was warmly welcomed," he said.
"I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country with a different culture," Gerrard continued. Despite challenges faced during his tenure, he found it to be an overall positive experience.
The former Liverpool midfielder acknowledged that football can be unpredictable but remains optimistic about Al-Ettifaq's future success. "Football is unpredictable and sometimes things don't go the way we want," he remarked.
"However," Gerrard concluded with respect for both club and country: "I leave with great respect for the club and country." He expressed confidence in ongoing efforts leading to future achievements: "I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future."
As Gerrard departs from Al-Ettifaq under mutual consent terms after an eventful stint marked by mixed results on-field performance-wise yet enriched personally through cultural exposure within Saudi Arabia's football landscape; he extends best wishes towards team endeavors moving forward into upcoming season challenges ahead.
