Barcelona begin their campaign after Real Madrid won 2-0 in a difficult away trip to Gipuzkoa against Basque giants Athletic Bilbao. English midfielder Jude Bellingham scored his debut goal for the All-whites after Rodrygo scored the opening goal. The result put pressure on Barcelona, who won't like to fall behind their arch-rivals early in the season.
Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid will also be in action in 24 hours time as they play their first game at home against Granada and will be hopeful of a title challenge early in the season.
Coming back to Barcelona, the side had restricted movement in the transfer market due to financial troubles and could only sign three players in Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu and Inigo Martinez joining the ranks.
Barring Romeu, the remaining duo was free transfers while Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets left the Catalan giants as club legends following successful and trophy-laden stints. Franck Kessie and Ousmane Dembele were also among key departures while Antoine Griezmann was sold off to Atletico Madrid after completing his loan stint at the Capital club.
