Zurich, feb 14: Ghana"s third place finish at this year"s African Nation"s Cup was able to secure the West African Country a top 20 place and their highest ever ranking in the recently released FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
The Black Stars of Ghana are currently ranked 14th in the world, an upward movement of 29 places from their previous ranking of 43, making them the number one team in the continent. Despite winning the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, the Pharaohs of Egypt progressed up by just six places, sitting 29th.
Also making a leap forward were the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, who moved 8 places to 17th position.
The Elephants of Cote d"Ivoire got their reward for a decent display at the African Nations Cup in the form of a 14 place movement up the standings to stay at the 24th position.
It was not all rosy however for all the African teams, though, as previous number one Nigeria nosedived 26 places to 45th position in the continent, a situation that can not be unconnected with the team"s dismal performance in Ghana.
Other casualties of their African Nations Cup poor showing include Senegal, who dropped three places, Morocco, who went back 7 places, Tunisia, who slipped by 7 places to rank 53rd in the world, and Guinea, who slumped massively to rank 43 in the world and 8th in the continent.
