Gianluigi Donnarumma Expresses Disappointment Over Exclusion From PSG Squad Ahead Of UEFA Super Cup

Gianluigi Donnarumma has voiced his disappointment after being omitted from Paris Saint-Germain's squad for the UEFA Super Cup. The goalkeeper hints at a potential departure amid speculation regarding his future.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has voiced his frustration after being excluded from Paris Saint-Germain's squad for the UEFA Super Cup. The 26-year-old goalkeeper was instrumental in PSG's historic Champions League triumph and played a key role in their journey to the Club World Cup final. Since joining PSG on a free transfer from AC Milan in July 2021, Donnarumma has achieved 32 clean sheets in 104 Ligue 1 matches.

His tenure at PSG has been marked by significant success, including four consecutive league titles and two Coupe de France victories. However, speculation about his future intensified when Manchester United reportedly showed interest, followed by rumours of Manchester City's admiration for him. These developments have fueled discussions about a potential departure from the Parisian club.

Donnarumma Disappointed Over PSG Exclusion

Before PSG's Super Cup match against Tottenham on Wednesday, manager Luis Enrique explained his decision to leave Donnarumma out of the squad. "Donnarumma is out of the squad as it's my own decision. I am 100% responsible," said Luis Enrique. He added that he seeks a different goalkeeper profile and is supported by the club in this decision.

Enrique acknowledged the difficulty of such decisions, stating, "I only have praise for Donnarumma. He is one of the very best goalkeepers out there and an even better man. But we were looking for a different profile." This statement highlights the challenging nature of team selection at this level.

Donnarumma addressed his situation through social media, expressing disappointment over his exclusion and hinting at an impending departure from PSG. "From the first day I arrived, I gave everything on and off the pitch to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain," he stated.

The Italian international expressed his desire to bid farewell to fans properly at Parc des Princes. "I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done," he shared. He also conveyed gratitude for their support, which he cherishes deeply.

Donnarumma's contributions to PSG have been significant since his arrival, but recent events suggest a shift in his career path may be imminent. As discussions continue around his future, both fans and analysts will be keenly observing how this situation unfolds.
