Girona aim to carry their strong league performance into the Champions League, as stated by head coach Michel. They face Sturm Graz on Wednesday. The Spanish team has climbed to seventh in LaLiga after a 4-1 win over Espanyol, marking three consecutive victories. Michel is eager for his team to mirror this form in Europe, especially with upcoming matches against Liverpool, AC Milan, and Arsenal.
Michel emphasised the significance of the upcoming match, noting its importance despite not being decisive. "This match is not definitive, but it is very important," he mentioned during a press conference. He stressed the necessity of securing three points given their current standing in the group. "We've only got three points, the feelings are good and we want to continue in the same way."

Girona's internal competition is fierce, with players fully motivated due to the availability of choices between two players for each position. This dynamic is expected to enhance their competitive edge. Michel believes that having everyone available will elevate their performance level. "We are prepared," he said confidently.
Sturm Graz sits third-bottom in the table after four consecutive losses. Despite this poor run, Michel refuses to underestimate them or consider Girona as favourites. He explained that being labelled as favourites holds no particular significance at the start of matches. "The word favourite means nothing positive or negative to me at the start of matches," he stated.
Michel aims to implement his game strategy effectively against Sturm Graz, just as he did against teams like Paris and PSV. He highlighted that tactical tools in both defence and attack are crucial for overcoming opponents. "I have to prepare for a match and there are tactical tools in defence and attack to be able to overcome the opposition," he explained.
Despite Sturm Graz's struggles, Michel acknowledges their competitiveness and potential challenges they pose in a single game scenario. He remains confident that Girona can impose their style of play successfully. "I see that we are capable of imposing our game style and if we do that we will be able to achieve a positive result," he concluded.
Girona's recent success includes Yangel Herrera's remarkable goal against Getafe following 28 uninterrupted passes—the longest sequence leading to a goal in LaLiga this season. This highlights their effective teamwork and strategic play on the field.
As Girona prepares for their Champions League clash with Sturm Graz, maintaining momentum from their domestic league successes remains crucial for advancing further in European competition.
