Oliver Glasner is nearing the completion of his starting lineup for Crystal Palace's Community Shield match against Liverpool. The Eagles earned their spot in this prestigious event by defeating Manchester City 1-0 in last season's FA Cup final, marking their first major trophy win. In pre-season, Palace faced Augsburg twice, with Glasner opting for a strong team initially and a younger squad later.
Jean-Philippe Mateta impressed by scoring twice, while Eberechi Eze, who netted the decisive goal in the FA Cup final and is rumoured to be moving to Arsenal, completed a 3-1 victory in Germany. Glasner suggested he might use a similar lineup against Liverpool at Wembley but acknowledged that a few players are vying for starting positions.

"I think we have one or two other players who are close to being in the starting XI, who deserve it," said Glasner. "But I think that was pretty much the line-up from the FA Cup final against [Manchester] City."
The team is in excellent condition and familiar with their routines, making it easier to prepare. The focus now is on achieving match fitness, which is why they needed 90 minutes of playtime. Originally, another friendly was planned, but they now face Liverpool in the Community Shield instead.
The absence of major events this year has allowed ample time for training together. The only exception was Chris Richards' participation in the Gold Cup final for the USA. This extended preparation period has been beneficial for team cohesion and readiness.
Glasner expressed satisfaction with the team's progress and readiness for the upcoming challenge against Liverpool. The opportunity to compete for silverware is welcomed by both players and staff as they aim to build on last season's success.
