Oliver Glasner Commends Jean-Phillipe Mateta Following Crystal Palace's Win Against West Ham

After Crystal Palace's 2-0 victory over West Ham, manager Oliver Glasner praised Jean-Phillipe Mateta for scoring twice. The win marked Palace's fifth consecutive unbeaten match in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised Jean-Phillipe Mateta following his two goals that secured a 2-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League. Mateta scored first in the 48th minute with a long-range shot and later converted a penalty in the 89th minute at London Stadium. This marked his 10th and 11th goals of the season, continuing his scoring streak in three consecutive league matches.

Mateta's performance was crucial as Palace moved up to 12th place, overtaking West Ham. Glasner acknowledged Mateta's contribution but emphasized teamwork, stating, "I don't want to praise him because it is always teamwork. It is the striker's job to score goals, and he is doing it excellently." He also highlighted Mateta's hard work and positive attitude in the dressing room.

Glasner Hails Mateta After West Ham Win

The victory extended Crystal Palace's unbeaten run to five league games. They have also achieved an unprecedented seven-match unbeaten streak away from home, winning four and drawing three. This form sets them up well for their upcoming home match against Brentford next weekend.

Mateta's first goal against West Ham was notable as it was his first from outside the box for Palace in the Premier League. His overall tally for the club now stands at 31 goals in England's top tier. The team’s recent success reflects significant progress since early-season struggles.

West Ham suffered their second defeat in three games under new manager Graham Potter. The team failed to register a single shot on target, marking only the second time this season they have done so at home. This issue last occurred during the 2005-06 campaign when they failed against Arsenal and Wigan.

"The game looked like it was a game too far in a long week for us," said Potter. "We're disappointed with the result, of course, and the performance." West Ham managed seven attempts with an xG of 0.3, while Palace had an xG of 1.31 from 12 shots, seven of which were on target.

Potter admitted that West Ham struggled to control the game and create sustained attacks. "The better team won on the day," he noted, acknowledging areas for improvement as they prepare for upcoming away fixtures against Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Glasner expressed satisfaction with his team's progress this season despite early challenges. He remarked on their unity and willingness to listen, saying, "It's big progress... It's still January but for us, it is about staying humble." With three wins this week, Glasner rewarded his players with extra rest time.
