Goa to have world class National Football Academy

Panaji, Mar 5 (UNI) The Goa cabinet has approved the setting up of a world-class National Football Academy soon.

To be set up by the All India Football Federation, the academy requires 100,000 square metres of land, according to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.

Briefing media persons after the Cabinet approved the AIFF proposal, the Chief Minister said Goa got the clearance against the offers from Kerala, Karnataka and West Bengal for the academy.

It will be located at Panjar Khani area in South Goa and is expected to boost football in the state.

Asked about the preparations for the 2011 National Games in Goa, Mr Kamat said Sports Minister Manohar Azgaonkar had left for Hyderabad to study the land requirement for hosting the games.

The immediate task was to upgrade the existing infrastructure while trying to identify the required infrastructure after the authorities enlisted the disciplines to be played here, the Chief Minister added.
