Manchester United's recent FA Cup exit against Fulham won't deter their long-term ambitions, according to Ruben Amorim. Despite being knocked out in a 4-3 penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Amorim remains focused on winning the Premier League. This early exit marks their earliest as holders since 1996-97 when they lost to Wimbledon in the fourth round.
Amorim emphasised that the club's primary goal is to reclaim the Premier League title. "I know that we are losing games but the goal is to win the Premier League again," he stated. Although United currently sit 14th in the league, Amorim believes understanding players and the league better will help them achieve this aim.

United's only remaining chance for silverware this season lies in the Europa League. Despite recent setbacks, Amorim remains optimistic about their future prospects. He highlighted the importance of player recovery, especially with an upcoming match against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
In their FA Cup match against Fulham, United missed several opportunities to secure victory within regular and extra time. Young talents Alejandro Garnacho and Chido Obi came close to scoring. "We managed to score in the second half after that goal near half-time," Amorim noted, adding that they had some of the best chances during the game.
The penalty shoot-out saw Fulham excel with Raul Jimenez, Sander Berge, Willian, and Antonee Robinson all converting their attempts. In contrast, Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee were denied by Fulham's Bernd Leno. Amorim commented on penalties: "I tried to relax the players. They know that it is something that is technical, but you have to be relaxed and confident."
Amorim acknowledged that while penalties can go either way, it wasn't United's day this time. The team had previously succeeded in three consecutive FA Cup shoot-outs before this loss. Their last shoot-out defeat was against Middlesbrough in February 2022 under Ralf Rangnick.
Despite these challenges, Amorim remains committed to moving forward with his team. He stressed understanding players better and adapting strategies as crucial steps towards achieving their goals in future competitions.
