London, Oct 1: Antonio Conte has confirmed striker Alvaro Morata has suffered a muscular problem in Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Manchester City but does not think the injury was serious.
Morata was subbed off in the 35th minute of the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge after he indicated at his left hamstring and made a call to sub him off as a precautionary measure.
The injury was a blow for Chelsea as the striker was in a superb form and already scored six Premier League goals this season and also scored the equalizer this midweek in Chelsea's 2-1 win in Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
After the striker absence, the Blues looked vulnerable in attack and eventually failed to score as they lost against a superb Pep Guardiola side, due to a superb De Bruyne goal from the visitors.
And after the match, while talking about the injury Conte claimed that he doesn't know the degree of Morata's damage, however, said does not expect Alvaro Morata to spend too long on the sidelines and will most likely be precluded of Spain's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel.
The Italian said: "It's a muscular problem. I don't think it's serious.
"He said to me, I prefer to stop myself otherwise I risk having a bad injury.
"The doctor will check the situation but I don't think he's available for the national team."
Conte also suggested that the injury is an aftermatch effect of their consecutive tough busy fixtures as his players' got a little bit of rest since the big tie against Atletico Madrid in midweek and thus he could not provide rest to Morata as City match was also a big test for them.
“It's normal when you play three massive games in only seven days, you must consider this aspect. We needed to take this risk because Morata for us is an important player.”
