India's rising football stars, spearheaded by Minerva Academy, wrote yet another golden chapter in the footballing history as they managed to defend their U12 Gothia Cup title after beating Brazilian side RS Sports Yellow 2-1 in a gripping final. The triumph comes less than a week after the Chandigarh-based academy finally got its hands on the coveted Helsinki cup.

If the Helsinki Cup triumph was about settling unfinished business from last year, the Gothia Cup served as a statement of Minerva's growing stature. Facing another highly competitive international field, the academy once again demonstrated why it has earned recognition as one of the leading youth football academies outside Europe.

Coming to the finals, Kipgen Thangsanglen gave Minerva the lead in the all-important finals. The Brazilian side responded and hit back with an equaliser. Ranjit Bajaj's side scored freely right from the group stage before overcoming their toughest challenge in the knockout rounds. The only real scare for the Indian side was during the semi-finals against FC Lokomotyv Kyiv when Minerva were pushed to the wall. However, the spirited side found its mojo and switched to crisis management gear when it mattered most before finishing the job against Brazilian opposition in the title clash.
