Ryan Gravenberch attributes his excellent start this season to the confidence instilled by Liverpool's new manager, Arne Slot. Gravenberch has become a key player under Slot, featuring in 19 matches across all competitions. This has helped Liverpool lead both the Premier League and Champions League tables. Previously, under Jurgen Klopp, Gravenberch played in various positions but now excels as a defensive midfielder.

In the current Premier League season, Gravenberch has excelled in duels, winning 77, more than any other Liverpool player. Gravenberch expressed gratitude for the consistent game time he's received under Slot. "Now I play a lot of games as a starter," he told TNT Sports. "The coach gave me confidence when I needed it." "Just the run of games, you really need it to be honest," Gravenberch explained. "Sometimes it's really hard if you're on the bench and then come in for just 10 minutes." He emphasised how playing regularly allows him to showcase his abilities fully on the pitch.

Liverpool's next challenge is against Girona in La Liga. Girona sits 30th in their league after winning only one out of five matches in their debut season. Liverpool remains unbeaten in the Champions League this term, having won all five games so far. Slot's record-breaking start as an English club manager continues with these victories.

Despite their strong form, Gravenberch remains cautious about Michel's team. "Of course, you want to win every game," he said. "They have a good team and like to play from the back." He stressed that preparation is key for facing such opponents.

Comparisons to Toni Kroos

Gravenberch's rise has drawn comparisons to former Real Madrid star Toni Kroos. Kroos achieved significant success at Madrid, including five Champions League titles and two victories over Liverpool. Gravenberch appreciates such comparisons: "It's nice to hear that because Toni Kroos is a legend of the game."
