Mason Greenwood's Late Penalty Propels Marseille Past Monaco In Ligue 1 Clash

Mason Greenwood scored a late penalty to secure a 2-1 victory for Marseille over Monaco, moving the team to second place in Ligue 1. The match featured key contributions from both teams.

Mason Greenwood's late penalty secured a 2-1 win for Marseille against Monaco in an exciting Ligue 1 match. With just a minute left, Greenwood scored from the spot, pushing Marseille to second place, surpassing Monaco on goal difference. The penalty was given due to Christian Mawissa's handball, ending Marseille's three-game winless streak against Monaco.

At the bottom of the table, Montpellier managed a 2-2 draw with Lille, who are fourth. Arnaud Nordin scored a last-minute equaliser in a heated match. Jonathan David had earlier netted two penalties for Lille, while Issiaga Sylla scored for Montpellier just before half-time to level after David's first goal.

Greenwood's Penalty Leads Marseille to Victory

Montpellier's coach Jean-Louis Gasset was sent off late in the game. Tanguy Coulibaly and Mitchel Bakker were also dismissed following a chaotic end. The incident began when Coulibaly kicked the ball at Lille's coach Bruno Genesio, leading to both players being penalised.

Lyon enjoyed a straightforward 4-1 victory over Nice, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring three goals to lift his team to fifth place. Sofiane Diop briefly equalised for Nice after Lacazette's initial goal, but Lyon dominated with another goal from Jordan Veretout and Lacazette's continued brilliance.

This marked Lacazette's seventh hat-trick in Ligue 1, setting a record for Lyon players in the competition. His goals were his 149th, 150th, and 151st in Ligue 1. In this century, only Kylian Mbappe and Wissam Ben Yedder have scored more in France’s top division.

Earlier in the match between Marseille and Monaco, Valentin Rongier’s mistake allowed Aleksandr Golovin to score Monaco’s first goal. This was Golovin’s second goal of the season. Luis Henrique then equalised before Greenwood clinched victory for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
