Guardiola Asserts Alvarez's Future At Manchester City Amid Transfer Speculation

Pep Guardiola has quashed rumors of Julian Alvarez's potential move to Atletico Madrid, emphasizing the player's importance to Manchester City. Despite limited playtime and interest from other clubs, Guardiola counts on Alvarez post-Olympics.

Pep Guardiola has dismissed the idea that Julian Alvarez might transfer to Atletico Madrid, affirming that Alvarez remains a key player for Manchester City. Currently representing Argentina at the Paris Olympics, Alvarez recently expressed frustration over limited playing time in major matches. Despite his contributions, he often plays in an attacking midfield role due to Erling Haaland being the primary forward.

During a press conference in Paris, Alvarez mentioned he would contemplate his future at Manchester City after the Olympics. Arsenal and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in him. When asked about the possibility of Alvarez moving to Madrid, Guardiola provided minimal details. "He's absolutely our player. No news. I don't have anything to say. He will come back," said Guardiola.Alvarez scored 19 goals across all competitions last season, surpassing his expected goals (xG) of 17.5 and providing 13 assists, second only to Kevin De Bruyne's 17 assists. He will take an extended break after the Olympics and will miss City's Community Shield match against Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday.Guardiola emphasized his reliance on Alvarez but acknowledged that decisions would be made collectively. "I count on him, but he said in the news that decisions will be made all together. Now he has to rest and when he feels ready to come back, he will come back," Guardiola stated.

Upcoming Matches and Priorities

Alvarez Stays at Man City, Guardiola Confirms
Guardiola is focused on upcoming fixtures, including the Community Shield against Manchester United next week and a match at Stamford Bridge two weeks later. "Next week we play for the first trophy of the season [the Community Shield against Manchester United at Wembley]. [In] two weeks, we play at Stamford Bridge again. That's my only concern," he added.Upon Alvarez's return, Guardiola plans to congratulate him for his achievements with Argentina and resume working together. "I'm sure when he comes back, I'll hug and congratulate him for the Copa America, for the Olympics, and we will start to work together," said Guardiola. The striker has been a valuable asset for Manchester City but often finds himself covering injuries in midfield rather than playing as a forward due to Haaland's dominance in that position.Alvarez's future remains uncertain as he considers his options post-Olympics while enjoying a well-deserved break from club duties.
