Pep Guardiola is not anticipating an easy path for Manchester City as they strive to reclaim the Premier League title. Last season, City only managed to secure the Community Shield, marking their first campaign without a major trophy since Guardiola's debut season in 2016-17. They finished third, trailing champions Liverpool by 23 points.
Despite new additions like Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and James Trafford strengthening the squad, Guardiola remains realistic about the challenges ahead. "I'm pretty sure it'll be good, but it won't be a red carpet season," he stated on City's official website. "There'll always be problems; it's how you overcome those situations."

John Stones has issued a warning to City's competitors, emphasizing their determination to rectify last season's shortcomings. "It was humbling for us," he admitted. "It makes us realize what we've done and achieved over the years. We're frustrated at what we did last season." Stones stressed the need to return to their winning identity.
City also faces the outcome of their case involving 115 Premier League charges for alleged financial breaches. Meanwhile, rivals Liverpool and Arsenal have also strengthened their squads. According to Opta's supercomputer, City has an 18.8% chance of regaining the title, with Liverpool favoured at 28.5%.
When asked about what would constitute a successful season, Guardiola responded: "I don't know. It depends [on] how we played and how we performed." He emphasized that success is determined by effort and performance against opponents who might simply be better at times.
"It depends on ourselves," Guardiola added. "This is what we have to try to do. We challenge against ourselves; this is the target for the season." The team aims to regain its identity and confidence after last season's struggles.
City recently participated in Club World Cup action earlier this summer. They are set to face Palermo in a pre-season friendly on Saturday before taking on Wolves in their opening Premier League fixture a week later.
The team is eager to start strong and build momentum as they embark on another challenging campaign in pursuit of reclaiming their status at the top of English football.
