Pep Guardiola believes Joao Cancelo might still have a role at Manchester City despite recent setbacks. The right-back, who joined the club in August 2019 for £60 million, spent the latter part of the 2022-23 season on loan at Bayern Munich due to a disagreement with Guardiola over playing time.

In the 2021-22 season, Cancelo played more minutes than any other outfield player at City. He also led the league in attacking sequences with 244. Despite his significant contributions, his future at City remains uncertain as no clubs have shown interest in him during the transfer window.

Guardiola commented on the situation, stating, "He's training with us. We will see. Maybe he will stay, maybe he will go on loan. I don't know yet." This uncertainty highlights the complex decision Guardiola faces regarding Cancelo's integration back into the squad.

Guardiola acknowledged Cancelo's abilities, saying, "In the end, if he has to stay, we will treat him like all the other players, with respect, and try to take the best from the huge qualities he has."
