Guardiola Admits Job Security Concerns Amid Manchester City's Poor Form And Defensive Struggles

Pep Guardiola has expressed concerns over his job security at Manchester City following a poor run of form. With only one win in their last ten matches, the team faces significant challenges both domestically and in Europe.

Pep Guardiola recently extended his contract with Manchester City, but he acknowledges that his position is not guaranteed due to the team's recent poor performance. The team has only managed one victory in their last ten matches across all competitions, drawing two and losing seven. This slump has left them nine points behind Liverpool in the Premier League standings.

City's defensive issues have been a significant concern for Guardiola. Key players like John Stones, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, and Rodri have missed substantial playing time this season. Since November began, City has conceded more goals than any other team from Europe's top five leagues, allowing 21 goals in nine games.

Guardiola's Job Security in Question at Man City

Despite these challenges, Guardiola remains committed to his role. He signed a two-year contract extension during the November international break after a three-game losing streak. "Absolutely not," he stated when asked if he regretted the decision. "I will regret if I left now. I would sleep even worse than now."

Guardiola admits that his future at the club depends on improving results. "The owners know when the situation is bad, and we start to lose games, then it is not sustainable," he told Sky Sports. "Then I would not be here next month or in the next two months." He emphasised that managers are judged daily and can be dismissed after just one poor season.

The manager expressed his desire to stay close to his players during this challenging period. "I want to be close to the players. I want to be beside them," he said. However, he acknowledged that they have lost more games recently than they did over two previous seasons combined.

Upcoming Challenges and Schedule Concerns

City's demanding schedule adds another layer of difficulty for Guardiola and his squad. They are set to participate in the Club World Cup in Orlando next summer, followed by the Premier League starting just three weeks later. Guardiola highlighted the strain this places on players who already have many minutes on their legs.

Manchester City is preparing for a crucial match against Manchester United on Sunday. Ruben Amorim aims to become only the second manager to defeat City twice in one season with different teams after previously beating them 4-1 with Sporting CP in the Champions League.

Guardiola understands that consistent losses cannot continue indefinitely without consequences. Despite past successes, he knows that results dictate a manager's fate: "We cannot eternally lose games...we are judged daily as managers." The pressure is on for City to turn their fortunes around quickly.

As Manchester City faces these challenges, Guardiola remains focused on supporting his team through difficult times while acknowledging that results must improve for him to remain at the helm long-term.
