Guardiola Keeps Hope Alive For Grealish's Participation In Chelsea Match

Despite suffering an injury setback, Manchester City's Jack Grealish could make a return against Chelsea, as Pep Guardiola expresses optimism. Grealish's recent discomfort has been a concern after an injury-ridden season but hopes for his quick recovery are high.

Pep Guardiola has expressed concern over Jack Grealish's injury just before the season starts, but he remains hopeful that the Manchester City player will be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday. Grealish missed City's Community Shield victory against Manchester United, where they won 7-6 on penalties after Bernardo Silva's late header secured a 1-1 draw.

Guardiola disclosed that Grealish experienced discomfort during training before the match. This setback follows his exclusion from Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024. Grealish had a challenging 2023-24 season, making only ten starts across all competitions after playing a crucial role in City's treble-winning campaign the previous year.

Grealish May Face Chelsea

Despite these challenges, Guardiola is optimistic about Grealish's chances of playing in City's Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge. He also believes Grealish will be fit for their first home game against Ipswich Town six days later. "Apparently it's not much. In the last two days, he didn't feel good, he had discomfort," Guardiola told reporters.

Guardiola explained that Grealish trained with the starting XI but felt unwell in the last two days leading up to the match. "We talked with the doctors and he was not fine and that's why we didn't want to take a risk," Guardiola said. "I don't think it's a big issue but he could not be there."

The injury is disappointing for City as Grealish had shown good form during pre-season. "It's a blow because he did pre-season and had rhythm and was aggressive," Guardiola noted. "In the third and fourth game, he was really, really good and Jeremy [Doku] was on holiday, Savinho as well."

Looking Ahead

Guardiola acknowledged that injuries are part of the game and occur frequently throughout the season. He remains hopeful that Grealish will recover in time for upcoming matches. "Maybe against Chelsea, he will be ready. I am pretty sure for Ipswich he will be ready," Guardiola said.

Last season, Grealish contributed to just four goals in all competitions (three goals, one assist), marking his lowest tally since joining City in 2021 (six in 2021-22 and 12 in 2022-23). Despite this dip in form, Guardiola remains confident in Grealish's abilities and potential impact on the team.

The situation underscores the unpredictable nature of football injuries and their impact on team dynamics. As City prepares for their Premier League campaign, all eyes will be on whether Grealish can overcome this latest setback and return to form.

Manchester City fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Grealish's condition as they look forward to an exciting season ahead.
