Guardiola Delighted As Manchester City Overcomes 'Special' Ipswich With Spirited Performance

Pep Guardiola praised Manchester City for their spirited comeback to defeat Ipswich Town 4-1, led by Erling Haaland's hat-trick. Guardiola highlighted the team's respect for Ipswich, acknowledging their challenging start to the Premier League.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola commended his team's resilience after their 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town. Sammie Szmodics initially gave Ipswich a surprising lead in the Premier League match at Etihad Stadium, but City responded strongly. Erling Haaland netted a hat-trick, including a penalty, and Kevin De Bruyne also scored.

Guardiola acknowledged Ipswich's challenging play, noting their impressive performance against Liverpool despite losing 2-0. He remarked, "We played really good, but the opponents made an exceptional action and credit to them." He added that Ipswich's promotion from the Championship to the Premier League indicated their special qualities.

Man City's Spirited Win Over Ipswich

Reflecting on City's start, Guardiola said, "When I see how we started, [I could see] how much respect we have for them." He highlighted Ipswich's tough game against Liverpool as evidence of their strength.

Sammie Szmodics shared his thoughts on Ipswich's performance, acknowledging the difficulty of playing at Etihad Stadium. "We knew it was going to be a tough game," he told Sky Sports. Despite starting well, individual mistakes led to three goals in four minutes for City. Szmodics emphasized the need for better game management and learning from these experiences.

Ipswich has faced back-to-back defeats to start the season, while Manchester City has secured six points from two matches. City's previous win was a 2-0 victory over Chelsea.

Gundogan's Return

Guardiola introduced Ilkay Gundogan from the bench in the second half against Ipswich. The midfielder had returned to the club just a day earlier. Guardiola expressed his delight at Gundogan's return, saying, "Thank you for this warm welcome to him." He praised Gundogan's understanding of his role and contribution to City's treble-winning campaign two seasons ago.

City will face West Ham next Saturday in their upcoming Premier League match. On the same day, Ipswich will host Fulham as they seek their first points of the season.

"He is unbelievably happy," Guardiola said about Gundogan. "I had doubts [about bringing him off the bench]. We know each other for many years and he knows exactly what he needs to do."

The match saw Manchester City dominate despite an early scare from Ipswich Town. The visitors' strong start was quickly overshadowed by City's clinical finishing and tactical prowess.
