Pep Guardiola has committed to Manchester City for at least two more seasons beyond 2024-25, following a new two-year contract extension signed on Thursday. The 53-year-old's previous deal was set to conclude at the end of this season, but he chose to continue his journey at the Etihad Stadium. This extension will make Guardiola the longest-serving manager since Les McDowall in 1963.
There were speculations about Guardiola's departure after the announcement of director of football Txiki Begiristain's exit. Additionally, Guardiola was linked with the England managerial position following Gareth Southgate's resignation after their Euro 2024 final loss. However, Thomas Tuchel was appointed by the Football Association last month.

"Manchester City means so much to me," expressed Guardiola. "This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club." He added that he is thrilled to stay for another two seasons and thanked everyone connected to Manchester City for their trust and support.
Guardiola acknowledged the contributions of key figures such as The Owner, Chairman Khaldoon, Ferran, Txiki, the players, and fans. "It has always been an honour, a pleasure and a privilege to be here," he stated. "I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much."
Since joining in 2016, Guardiola has become Manchester City's most successful manager ever, securing 18 major trophies. His achievements include their first Champions League victory in 2023 and six Premier League titles, with four consecutive wins being particularly notable. His win rate stands at an impressive 72.04% across all competitions.
Looking ahead, Guardiola aims to add more silverware to City's collection. "Hopefully, now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won," he remarked. "That will be my focus." His continued presence promises further success for Manchester City as they strive for more glory.
