Pep Guardiola remains confident in his Manchester City squad despite their recent struggles. The Premier League champions suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa, marking their ninth loss in the last 12 matches across all competitions. This downturn has seen them go winless in five consecutive Premier League away games for the first time under Guardiola's leadership.
City's current form is reminiscent of a similar streak in December 2015 under Manuel Pellegrini. Guardiola faces additional challenges with key injuries, notably to centre-back Ruben Dias. Despite these setbacks, he maintains faith in his players, emphasising the importance of getting injured players back on the field.

Guardiola stated, "It depends on us," highlighting the need to bring back injured players. He acknowledged the difficulty of having only one fit central defender but expressed determination to seize opportunities in upcoming matches. "We are going to try in the next game, [for] another opportunity and we don't think much further than that."
The manager noted that City is conceding goals they previously avoided while struggling to score as they did before. He believes multiple small factors contribute to this situation rather than a single cause. Reflecting on past successes, Guardiola pointed out that even last season, when they won the Premier League, they lost at Villa Park.
City's recent defeat places them sixth in the league standings, trailing leaders Liverpool by nine points. Liverpool also holds two games in hand. This poor run contrasts sharply with City's previous record of nine defeats over 112 games before this slump.
Despite these challenges, Guardiola remains optimistic about his team's potential. He expressed confidence in his players' pride and desire to succeed. "We have to think positively and I have incredible trust in the guys," he said. His focus is on finding a way back to winning form step by step.
Historically, only during the 2019-20 and 2016-17 seasons did Guardiola's teams lose more matches than this season's nine losses so far. Yet, he believes that with time and effort, City will rediscover their winning ways.
Manchester City's journey continues as they aim to overcome current hurdles and regain their competitive edge in upcoming fixtures.
