Pep Guardiola Calls For Total Commitment From Manchester City Players Amidst Five-Match Losing Streak

Pep Guardiola emphasises the need for unwavering commitment from Manchester City players as they seek to end a five-match losing streak. With injuries affecting the squad, Guardiola remains focused on returning to winning ways against Feyenoord.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola emphasises the need for unwavering dedication from his players as they aim to break their losing streak against Feyenoord. City's recent form has been troubling, with a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham marking their fifth consecutive loss. This is the first time in Guardiola's career that he has experienced such a run, and it's also the club's worst since April 2006.

Injuries have plagued City's campaign, affecting key players like Rodri, Ruben Dias, Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy Doku, and Oscar Bobb. Despite these setbacks, Guardiola remains focused on maintaining the team's philosophy. "Look at where we've come from. It's so difficult to defend the success we have had, that's why I'm so relaxed," he stated. He stressed the importance of commitment and sticking to their principles.

Guardiola Demands Commitment from Man City Players

Guardiola recently extended his contract with City for two more years. Under his leadership, the team has secured 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory. He insists that commitment is crucial: "Just being ourselves isn't enough; we have to show commitment every day." The manager believes in adhering to their core principles even during challenging times.

The team's current struggles are compounded by injuries that have forced tactical adjustments. For instance, Ilkay Gundogan, typically an attacking midfielder, has had to fill in as a defensive midfielder due to absences in defence. Guardiola acknowledges these challenges but remains determined: "We create a lot of chances. We're not winning the duels... What do we have to do? Insist."

City currently trails Premier League leaders Liverpool by eight points and will face them on Sunday. Guardiola admits his side isn't ready to win the league at present but believes this phase will pass. "We need to win one game. I want the players to perform well," he said, highlighting areas needing more focus.

In the Champions League, City sits 10th with seven points from four games, just two points shy of automatic qualification spots. Feyenoord follows closely behind in 21st place. After drawing their opening match in the competition, City achieved significant victories over Slovan Bratislava and Sparta Prague before losing to Sporting CP.

Upcoming Matches

When asked about reversing City's fortunes, Guardiola's approach remains straightforward: "Prepare for the next game, try to beat them." He sees no need for drastic changes despite recent results: "It's the same as winning seven games in a row? What should I change? Impossible." The manager acknowledges that injuries have led to unusual circumstances but remains optimistic about overcoming them.

As City prepares for upcoming matches against Feyenoord and Liverpool, Guardiola's focus is on resilience and consistency. He believes that by staying true to their style and showing commitment daily, they can navigate through this challenging period successfully.
