Guardiola Remains Committed To His Approach Amidst Manchester City's Disappointing Season

Pep Guardiola insists he will not change his approach despite Manchester City's disappointing season. With an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest ahead, he aims for improvement and a return to form next season.

Pep Guardiola remains steadfast in his strategy despite a challenging season for Manchester City. The team is set to face Nottingham Forest at Wembley on Sunday, vying for a spot in the FA Cup final. This trophy represents City's last chance to salvage something from a frustrating season, as they struggle for Champions League qualification and lag behind in the Premier League title race.

City's recent dramatic victory over Aston Villa has boosted their chances of finishing in the top five to 95.7%. Guardiola, however, insists he will not alter his approach even with a potential rebuild on the horizon this summer. "The FA Cup win does not give you the certainty to come back to what we were," said Guardiola, who aims to avoid his first trophyless season since joining City.

Guardiola Stays True to His Approach This Season

City are eager to secure their third consecutive FA Cup final appearance. They previously defeated Manchester United en route to winning the treble in 2023 but lost to them last season. This marks City's seventh straight semi-final appearance, while Nottingham Forest is making their first since the 1990-91 season.

Guardiola acknowledges the challenge posed by Forest, who have already beaten City once in the league this season. "It would be good to make a third [final] but we have a serious and tough, tough rival," Guardiola stated. He praised Nuno Espirito Santo's impressive work with Forest and Wolves.

Guardiola confirmed that Ederson has resumed training but may not be ready for Sunday's match. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland remains unavailable due to injury. Despite these challenges, Guardiola is optimistic about next season. "I have the feeling that next season will be better. We will compete better," he expressed confidently.

The upcoming match against Nottingham Forest is crucial for both teams as they contend for Champions League spots. With each team having secured one league victory against the other this season, Sunday's encounter promises an intense battle at Wembley Stadium.

Guardiola reflected on City's unexpected drop in form mid-season but remains hopeful about future improvements. "There are reasons why we dropped, maybe unexpectedly, too much," he noted. His focus now is on maintaining City's competitive edge and returning stronger next year.
