Bruno Guimaraes Declares EFL Cup Final A World Cup Moment For Newcastle United

Bruno Guimaraes believes the upcoming EFL Cup final against Liverpool is akin to the World Cup for Newcastle United. With recent victories boosting confidence, he aims to secure the club's first major trophy in 70 years.

Bruno Guimaraes has likened Newcastle United's upcoming EFL Cup final against Liverpool to a World Cup, highlighting its significance for the club. Newcastle secured a win over West Ham on Monday, with Guimaraes scoring the decisive goal. This victory moved them to sixth place in the Premier League, just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Now, their attention shifts to Wembley, where they aim to end a 70-year wait for major silverware.

Newcastle's recent form in London has been promising, with consecutive Premier League victories in the capital for the first time since April 2023. They hope to continue this success at Wembley. Manager Eddie Howe praised the team's determination and heart, stating that these qualities are essential for success. He noted that winning tight games is crucial and expressed confidence that this victory will boost their morale ahead of the final.

Guimaraes Calls EFL Cup Final a World Cup Moment

Guimaraes expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete at the highest level, emphasising their desire to qualify for the Champions League again. "We want to fight for the Champions League again," he told Sky Sports. "It was a big win for us [tonight], good to keep the clean sheet, [and] get the confidence back before the final." He believes that consistency is key and that they can beat any team in the world.

The Newcastle squad is highly motivated, with Alexander Isak being hailed as one of the best strikers globally. Guimaraes is optimistic about their chances against Liverpool, stating, "I believe that we can win. In a final, everything could happen." He also highlighted the importance of their fans' support in making a difference during such crucial matches.

The match against West Ham was not without controversy. There were debates over whether Newcastle's winning goal should have stood after Isak appeared to push Max Kilman before Guimaraes scored. Kilman felt it was a foul and expressed his disappointment: "100%. I jumped in the air, and I felt a hard push." Despite this setback, West Ham had opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.

West Ham manager Graham Potter acknowledged his team's effort but admitted they fell short of their objective. "The attitude and effort was there in a really tight game against a very physical and intense team," he said. Although they didn't deserve to win, Potter believed they deserved something from the match due to their commitment and teamwork.

West Ham's Struggles Continue

West Ham's recent home form has been concerning, with three losses out of their last four Premier League games at home without scoring. Before this slump, they had won four out of eight matches (D2 L2). The team is working on building stability and addressing foundational issues while maintaining strong effort and application on the field.

As Newcastle prepares for their crucial clash at Wembley, they carry momentum from recent victories and hope to make history by securing a long-awaited trophy. The team's focus remains on delivering consistent performances and leveraging fan support to achieve success against formidable opponents like Liverpool.
