Gurpreet Singh Sandhu Celebrates 25 Clean Sheets Milestone Triumph

Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu of the Blue Tigers expressed his hopes for future success with the national football team before of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier match between India and Qatar at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

In an interview with the-aiff.com, Gurpreet expressed his satisfaction with his 25 saves against Kuwait in their previous qualifying match.

According to the ISL's official website, Gurpreet stated, "It means a lot to achieve such numbers (25 clean sheets), and they will mean even more if we keep getting success as a team and move forward."

In the last World Cup qualifier match between India and Kuwait, Sandhu kept his 25th clean sheet while playing for the "Blue Tigers." When it comes to the most clean sheets an Indian custodian has on a global platform, Gurpreet broke the previous record.

After making 11 vital stops, the Indian custodian proved his superiority beneath the crossbar and played a key role in India's victory against Kuwait.

In Sunil Chhetri's absence, the 31-year-old goaltender donned the captain's armband during the game. With his cat-like reflexes and point-blank range saves, Sandhu was untouchable the entire time.

While talking about the match, he said, "I remember going into that game knowing that there was no pressure on us."

"It wasn't just one man but all of us together with one thought - to make it difficult for the opponent, play the long game, stay alive for as long as we can, and who knows, we can get something out of it," he added.

The Bengaluru FC goalkeeper played his first match for the national team in 2011 but became a regular starter for the 'Blue Tigers' in 2015. Following his debut, he has been the first-choice keeper for India and has helped his team win points on plenty of occasions.
