Viktor Gyokeres is determined to eventually join one of Europe's elite football clubs. Despite his ambition, the Sporting CP striker is patient about when that opportunity might arise. Since transferring from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has been a standout performer for Sporting, netting 69 goals in 74 matches across all competitions.
His impressive form has propelled Sporting to the top of Liga Portugal, achieving 12 victories and only two losses in 14 games this season. Gyokeres has scored 18 goals in 14 league matches during the 2024-25 season, leading Europe's top ten leagues. This puts him ahead of renowned players like Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and Mohamed Salah.

The Swedish forward's goal tally exceeds expectations based on his expected goals (xG) figure of 15.07. He boasts a big-chance conversion rate of 62.9% and has also netted five Champions League goals, including a hat-trick against Manchester City last month. His rapid rise has sparked speculation about a potential move to a Premier League giant next year.
Gyokeres openly acknowledges his aspiration to play for one of Europe's top teams. "We will see," he told Bladet after receiving the Guldbollen award for Sweden's best-performing player annually. "There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season; there are still many months left."
Despite his ambitions, Gyokeres remains appreciative of Sporting's role in his development and is unconcerned about the timing of his next career move. Reflecting on his journey, he said, "Sometimes it has been difficult. I've played many seasons in the Championship. It's a very good and tough league."
"For me it doesn't matter; it can take as long as necessary," he continued. "When I got here I felt prepared. I could have come here when I was 19 or 20 years old, but perhaps I would not have performed at the same level as now."
The striker finds motivation in his current success and aims to keep improving. "It's difficult to understand that sometimes it's real, but that stimulates me and I want to continue playing," he stated. "You can always do better, score more goals."
